UNIT WT2.03 

CARRY OUT REMEDIAL WORKS TO WATER SYSTEMS

This unit addresses the skills and knowledge required to prepare for and carry out remedial works to water systems.

This unit is for those with responsibility for carrying out specified engineering remedial work on water systems, e.g. corrective actions specified in a Legionella Risk Assessment. Such remedial work requires following standard operating procedures in line with regulations and guidelines. The equipment and materials to be used, the conditions necessary for the work to be carried out in a competent and safe manner and the specific operations to be performed are defined in written instructions. Responsibility is limited to carrying out the defined procedures and recording that the work has been carried out. Any deviations from the standard operating procedures are referred to others for action.

This unit deals with the following:

  • Preparation before the work commences
  • Carrying out the remedial work
  • Checking system integrity post work

This unit is for those with responsibility for comparing test results of water system samples against defined control limits and implementing any corrective actions in accordance with company procedures and guidelines.

This involves:

  • Comparing test results against the relevant defined control limits for the specific test and system
  • Implementing or recommending defined corrective actions to establish the relevant water conditions

  • Engineering remedial works

Including:

  • System surveys
  • Mapping pipe routes
  • Identifying system components
  • Diagram production

  • Following company operating procedures for dosing chemicals to a water system

The learner should:
